Door Kickers is a highly appreciated real-time strategy (RTS) game where you control a SWAT team in the attempt to successfully complete various missions and tactical interventions. Like in any other respectful strategy game, in Door Kickers planning is vital, even though it's a real-time strategy game with no player turns. You have to properly calculate team routes, choose the right team members and the proper gear, pick breach points, analyze the situation, and eventually coordinate the troopers in action to ensure the objective will be reached according to the plan. You can pause during the mission as many times as you want, and re-calculate the entire plan, as on the fly improvisation can prove to actually provide positive results, but achieving and deploying the perfect mission is still very difficult.

The action happens in a top-down 2D environment meant to make it easy for the player to supervise the location, analyze the mission and take the best tactical decisions. Anyway, the fact that it's based on top-down 2D visuals doesn't mean that it looks outdated or subpar. On the contrary, its graphics are neat, elegant, and contribute to making the gameplay really captivating.

The game also impresses by being incredibly comprehensive and complex. Even though there already are a lot of scenarios and mission to complete, it also includes a mission editor, and it's moddable. There are also plenty of trooper types, weaponry, locations, and so on.

To sum it all up, Door Kickers is one of those few indie gems that deservedly made it big. It's a tactical simulator that proves that strategy games can still keep you on your toes in every second of a mission.
